2/7/12

Language Arts:
We are rolling right along on this new novel study and the kids seem to be enjoying the element of fantasy that we are reading about. As with our previous novel studies, the students will have nightly vocabulary and comprehension questions to work on. Please make sure that they are looking at their planners each night so that all work is checked off before the next day.

In grammar we are working on pronoun/verb agreement. This seems to be the easiest skill for them so far this year.

Writing- Please continue to work on the published book writing at home. We are just about finished with only two more pages left to turn in.(Feb. 9 and 15) After we finish the writing, the typing fun begins. Since we have very little computer time with testing going on as well as computer issues in our ELA, I am suggesting to the students that they take one page at a time home when they do not homework so that they can type it at home, print it, and ring it back to school if at all possible.

Homework:
***Vocabulary and Comprehension Questions
***Read! Read! Read!- We need to read beyond the normal expectations this month. Reading calendars are due on Friday.
***Page 14 is due on Thursday

Math:
After skill review today, we worked on enlargements, ratios and similar polygons.

Social Studies:(Doms)
Check out our new Social Studies project packet! Each student was assigned a state to research along with a planning sheet and a bibliography page. This project will be presented in the form of a float. Please sign and return the bottom back sheet no later than Thursday. The due date is March 5.(See the packet for specific details and assignment due dates.)

Today in class we rotated around the town of Williamsburg. We moved from shop to shop to visit the Shoemaker's Shop, Raleigh's Tavern, a Plantation, The College of William and Mary, a Dame School, the Governor's Palace and a church. In each station we read and completed an activity to make the town of Williamsburg come to life! This was really fun to see the girls sewing, the boys writing with ink, and the shoemakers busy at work.

Homework:
***State Float parent signature on packet

Until tomorrow...
