1/30/12

Language Arts:
Today in LA we took our spelling pretest, discussed subject and object pronouns, and listened to eight Science Expo presentations. I can say that so far I am really impressed with the projects. The kids seem to be excited and able to really explain their projects. Way to go!

Homework:
***Published book- Page 9-due Wed.
***Vocab. quiz- Wed.
***Field trip- Friday
***Study for spelling/grammar- Due to the field trip, we will be having both the grammar and spelling tests on Thursday this week.

Math:
Today our lesson dealt with cross product proportions. Unit 7 pre- and post tests were passed back today along with several standard assessments. Please get a parent signature on the tests and get signatures on any requested assessments.

***We will be going to the lab tomorrow to finish up our MAP test.

Social Studies:(Suddarth)
Today we read and discussed the last two sections of our chapter as well as the Reading Further section. Study guides were passed out last week. Our test for my homeroom will be on Wednesday- Mrs. Doms' class will be having their test tomorrow. Please use the study guides.

Homework:
***Fill out and study the study guide for the upcoming test- We will review prior to the test.

Reminders:
***Report cards were sent home today.
***My Language Arts class will be out of the building on Friday morning for a field trip. Please remember your sack lunch.
***The I Love to Read Challenge starts on Wednesday. Get ready to do some required extra reading!

Language Arts:
Tomorrow is an important day for our class. We MAP test first thing in the morning. Please be sure to get enough rest and eat a healthy breakfast!

Today in class we reviewed antecedents/pronouns, read and discussed chapter 19 in our novel study, and took the overall Unit 3 reading assessment.

Homework:

***Field trip permission trips are due tomorrow
***Book orders are due tomorrow
***Page 9 of the published book is due on Wed., Feb. 1- Parents please revise, edit and sign these pages each night.

Reminders:
Next week starts the I Love to Read Challenge. We are getting geared up for this fun month of reading. Reading expectations and goals will be set for next week. Please set time aside each night for reading. Also, we will be having raffles each Friday for those students who met or exceeded their weekly reading goal. If you would like to send in "small" prizes, that would be appreciated.

All Science Expo boards are due on Monday. The students will be assessed on how well they present the material, stay on topic, voice, eye contact, preparedness, and volume. Please practice at home.

Language Arts:
We were busy plugging along today in class. We worked on antecedents and pronouns during grammar, read and discussed chapters 17 and 18 in our novel study, and spent time writing our autobiographies.

We had math for most of the day today. Our class used a good chunk of the time working on our Math MAP test. The remainder of the class time was spent reviewing skills and starting our next unit which deals with rates, ratios and proportions.

Language Arts:
Today was a busy day. We read and discussed chapter 12, reviewed types of propaganda techniques, practiced identifying RIT examples, and worked on white boards with irregular verbs. It was also the day that we meet with our Reading Buddies.

***Page 3 of the published book is due with a parent signature.(Please read over it and edit it together.)
***Vocabulary quiz- 10 words over chapters 10-12.

Today we spent time reviewing and working on white boards.(This is my favorite part of the day!) We also worked on our lesson which dealt with the mathematical side of fair and unfair games.

Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we read and discussed chapters 9-11 in our novel study, reviewed propaganda techniques, reviewed RIT vocabulary, practiced working with irregular verbs, and had about 30 minutes of work time on their questions that were assigned as homework.

Our vocabulary quiz will hopefully be tomorrow. We had all three copiers down in need of repair today.

Today we spent time working on using Venn Diagrams in math. We also devoted a lot of time to finding the percent of a decrease or increase, the percent of a number, algebra, and a few new math terms were introduced.

Language Arts:
Today we continued on with our novel study and practiced finding linking verbs in sentences. We also took some time to discuss our published book writing that we will be working on and publishing this next grading period. This year we will be working on an autobiography. Be looking for a paper all about it tonight in blue folders.

Welcome Back to School!

We are all finally back to school and ready to face this second half of the year, testing, spring break and camp. Yea!

Language Arts:
We are gearing up for MAP testing which is right around the corner. My LA class will be taking their reading test on January 27. We are doing this by diving into a new novel study. With this, we will be looking at examples of different kinds of figurative language, exploring new vocabulary, and answering higher level thinking questions. Along with this novel study, we will continue to focus on a weekly grammar skill as well as new spelling words. Last but not least, we will start writing our published book. This will include writing that will need to be reviewed with a parent, revised and edited. Be looking for this packet to come home this week.

Homework:
***Study 10 vocabulary words from Ch. 1-3. We have a quiz tomorrow.
***Comprehension questions- Ch. 3

Math:
Today we reviewed many skills on white boards and jumped into Unit 7 which deals with tree diagrams and probability. We also completed a math trick of the day.(Sorry kids... I will need to print you out a copy if you would like to try this at home.)

We will be spending time reviewing skills/standards in preparation for MAP testing which will be on January 25. I know that the students have grown so much already and I can't wait to see what they can do!

Today we discussed the choices that young men had when they came to the new colonies. We also worked on a page in our ISNB. Remember... Study guides for Ch. 7 were passed out before break. The test over Ch. 7 will be tomorrow for Mrs. Doms' class and Thursday for my homeroom.

***Both classes should be studying for the Ch. 7 test this week. Use your study guide.
