Today was a busy one! We spent the majority of our morning working on the grammar concept for the week, listening to our read aloud, working on Study Island skills in computer lab and putting the finishing touches on our published books. I am hoping that by working on them a few minutes on Friday, everyone will be finished.

Another sunny day!
Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we switched for Vocabulary Vine and worked on our grammar skill for the week . Today we discussed and practiced finding demonstrative adjectives. (Double Specials)

***Read- Each child is required to read and pass at least two AR books on a fifth grade level or higher along with completing the State Float Project.

Today we worked on a practice test in groups today. This worked great in working out any problems with specific skills in Unit 9. The test will be tomorrow.

Social Studies:
Today in Social Studies, each group presented their billboards and their sales pitch about their colony. We then discussed and voted on which billboards we "Catchy" and why we would choose to live in that particular colony. We will read as a group all about the other colonies tomorrow. Our test will either be Friday or Monday depending on how much we can get through tomorrow. I would like to have one day prior to the test as a review day.

Happy Spring!
Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we were very busy. We worked on handwriting reviewing capital P, R, and B. We are now going to spend the rest of the year practicing and reviewing our combinations of letters. This is extremely important in writing in cursive on spelling tests.In spelling, an incorrect letter formation is a misspelled word!
We also read our story for the week. This week our story is called Spirit of Endurance. The following are our vocabulary words for the week: frigid, triumph, dismantled, uninhabited, treacherous, expedition, abandon, and labor. This story is a rather long one so I suggest that parents take turns reading it with their kids or spread it out over two nights. It will help in comprehension that way.
Our RIT words for the week are antithesis, appendix, interjections, italics, paraphrase, and rhyme scheme. The students have these words in their RIT folder and should be studying them a little each night as well.
In grammar, we worked on adjectives and the nouns that they describe.
We ended our morning taking the overall Unit 4 test and spending some time working on the illustrations of our published book.

We spent the remainder of the day working and reviewing using formulas for finding the volume and area of cylinders and spheres. Our test is scheduled right now for Wednesday. If after tomorrow the students still need more time, I will push it back to Friday.(Thursday is our Study Island day in the computer lab.) We will work on a practice test tomorrow as a group.

The last and final grading period starts today!
Language Arts:
This morning we switched for Vocabulary Vine and then we returned to our classroom for a very short time. During this time we discussed our new reading project. This one is going to be a lot of fun! This grading period the students will be constructing 3-D state floats that move. We will even end with a float parade. Please see blue take home folders for specific requirements , a planning sheet, and specific due dates. (Each child will be given a state tomorrow. Let the researching begin!
***In addition to the state float project, each student will be required to read and pass 2 AR books in their lexile range.

The students will have fun tomorrow working in groups drawing a billboard as a group that will entice colonists to join their colony. This chapter sounds like a lot of fun!

Today in Language Arts we switched for Vocabulary Vine, listened to our last reading project presentation, reviewed our RIT words, worked on a homophone and possessive contractions page, and had three safety drills. While we were in the computer lab we completed the typing of our published books.

Another busy Monday...
Today was a busy one! We started off in home room and spent one hour in the LGI listening to former Northpoint students and their Principal, Mrs. Harper and their Vice Principal, Mr. Kaufmann. They shared with us many important things about Discovery and gave us an insight on what to expect. Yellow packets were passed out today. They contain important information for parents. Please be looking for those in backpacks.
Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts, we were pressed for time. We took our spelling pretest and worked on a worksheet practicing the spelling skill for the week. This week we are working on words that end in -ance, and -ence. This can be tricky so make sure that your child is studying a little each night. We also took some time to finish up our drawings that go along with our writing for Galaxy Gallery, met with our Reading Buddies, and finished all but two of our presentations.
