What a great way to end August... Hot!

Language Arts:
We had a great morning in Language Arts. We started by discussing our vocabulary and listening to our weekly story on tape. This story is loaded with facts so be sure to summarize each paragraph as you read it together.(Main Idea)

In grammar we completed a page in our workbook that dealt with subjects and predicates and creating complete sentences from sentence fragments. So far the students are doing a great job with this.

During our writing time, we started a really neat "Who am I" writing piece. It was really interesting to see how "easy" it was for most of them to write freely about their own likes, fears, and dislikes.

Finally, we wrapped up our morning by reviewing the meaning of assonance and similes.

Homework:
***Weekly Homework Packet is due on Friday
***Study spelling-test Friday
***Book orders and Highlights forms are due on Friday.(Parents- If you could fill out the Highlights form completely even if you choose not to order, our class can earn prizes.)

Reminders:
***Book approval for reading projects- Friday, Sept. 3

What a busy morning!

Language Arts:
We had quite a busy morning today! We started off in computer lab followed by three safety drills- Code Blue, Shelter in Place, and a Storm Drill. After we completed all three of those, we took our first assessments of the fourth grade. (Their scores are pretty good too!). We even found time to switch for Vocabulary Vine where we study both Greek and Latin Roots.

Homework:
***Read for 20 minutes

Math:
Today in math we reviewed the metric system and worked on converting a decimal to a fraction. The remainder of the class period was spent on taking the same test that we took last week which is a mix of skills/standards. After looking them over I now know that the students are ready! We will begin in their Journal 2 on Monday! Yea!

Homework:
***None

We had quite an adventure today as we served as archaeologists and searched through our trash to find artifacts that each social scientist might use.(Well, not really!) This was a great way to review. Next Tuesday will be a review day which should wrap up Chapter 1.

Homework:
***Chapter 1 test is on Thursday, Sept. 2

Reminders:

What a great day!

Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts, we wrapped our skills for the week. We reviewed both complete sentences andsentence fragments as well as the four different kinds of sentences. We started our read a loud and were able to listen to two chapters.( The students were definitely interested in the friendly giant that we are reading about! )Finally, we were placed into three different groups to work on our leveled readers.

Homework:
***Study for the spelling test tomorrow. Be sure to know which list you are studying!

*************************************************************************************
Math:
Today in math we reviewed all the skills presented earlier in the week and jumped into a few new ones. We worked on adding and subtracting decimals, multiplying a two digit number by a two digit number, finding the mean of a set of data, and the powers of ten with exponents. Since the students are whizzing through the skills this week,we are jumping into Journal 2 on Tuesday of next week. I know that I am excited and I think they are too!

Homework:
***Worksheet

Social Studies(Mrs. Doms' class)
***Today we were able to share our artifacts in groups. The students were able to discuss their artifacts within their group and explain which social scientist would be interested in each particular artifact. We learned an interesting fact that showed that some artifacts may be of interest to more than one scientist. Who knew?

Homework:
***The Chapter 1 test is scheduled for Mrs. Doms' class for next Friday, Sept. 3. It is a good idea to reread the chapter and look over the notes in the Interactive Student Notebook.

Until tomorrow...

Welcome to our 4th grade blog!

Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we had a busy morning. We spent time sorting our spelling words into short vowel sounds and putting them into sentences. During grammar, we worked on sentence vs. fragment, and the four types of sentences. We did find time to finish up our personal narrative that dealt with a personal problem that we have faced and the solution.

Homework:
***Study your spelling words. Our test will be on Friday.
***Our first reading project packets were sent home today. Please check the upcoming due dates.
***Read 20 minutes
***If you have not done so already, read the story for the week to a parent by Friday.

Math:
We had another exciting day in math! I am impressed with how well the students are making progress since our test last week. Today we worked on finding the landmarks of a set of data(minimum, maximum, range, mode, and median). We also practiced multiplying and dividing, solved number sentences, and we worked on open sentences.

Homework:
***Worksheet

Social Studies:
We had a blast this afternoon going through our different artifact bags. The students were able to not only describe the reason why they chose their artifact, but which social scientist would be interested in it as well.

Homework:
***Our Chapter 1 test is scheduled for my homeroom on Thursday, September 2. It is a good idea to reread the chapter and your Interactive Student Notebook a little each day.

Reminder:
***Mrs. Doms' class has their artifact bags and sheet due tomorrow. Their test will be on Friday, Sept. 3.

Until tomorrow...
