12/1/11

Welcome December!

Today was a great day! Our D.A.R.E. graduation went well and our students were happy to sport their new shirts.

Language Arts:
We continued on with our novel study and we are starting to be able to make predictions about how this story might end. Mr. Kistler spent quite a bit of time reviewing the questions and pointing out examples within the text of figurative language.

Homework:
***Comprehension questions and journal writing
***Figurative Language sheet
***Study the 5 vocabulary words
***Reading projects are due in two weeks. Has your child started yet?
***Tomorrow will be our assessments. Please be sure to study spelling and review the grammar skill.

Math:
We did not have a regular math class today due to D.A.R.E. Our math time was spent in the lab working on Odyssey. Please be sure that your child is working on this at home as well. Odyssey is an excellent way to prepare for MAP testing since it is directly linked to the NWEA.

Homework:
***Math Boxes 6.8 and 6.9
***Friday Skills Packet

Social Studies:
We continued on today talking about the settlements of Roanoke and Jamestown. We ended a bit early so that we could gather all our 5th graders to discuss the Science Expo. Be looking for three important papers that were sent home today regarding the Expo. They include directions, instructions, and important dates.

Until tomorrow...
