Columbus Day!
Language Arts:
Since today was our long morning in Language Arts, we were able to get a lot accomplished. We read and discussed chapters 12 and 13 of our novel study. We worked both individually and in small groups to tackle the comprehension questions and figurative terms. It really helped some students to hear the opinions and answers of their peers as they were answering specific questions. The students did a great job! With this being the end of the novel, we will have our test over it tomorrow. The test will reflect the figurative terms and comprehension questions that we covered each day in class. We will continue working on our journal activities and projects throughout the week as time allows.
We also found some time to work on our handwriting this morning. Today we reviewed the letters a,d,g,o,c, and q. I realize that some students may still be grumbling about writing in cursive, but their handwriting keeps getting better and better! Keep practicing!

Today in math, we completed our minute, worked on computation on white boards, and reviewed our new RIT vocabulary for the week. (Linear and Nonlinear functions). We also spent some time on our lesson which dealt with fractions, decimals, and percents.

Social Studies:
Today we drew illustrated dictionary charts in our interactive workbooks and spent the rest of the time reviewing for our test tomorrow. Friday will be the last day of our rotation. The remainder of our time this week will be spent in creating landforms.

What a wet Friday!
Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we worked on the letters "j" and "p", discussed the figurative language terms from chapter 10 as well as discussed the comprehension questions. We also read chapter 11 together as a class. The students had some time before library to work on their chapter 11 comprehension questions and many of them were able to finish them. After library we worked on writing journal activities. The students were instructed to pick an entry that they felt confident in writing with specific details, use deep thinking to create their response, and be able to quote specific evidence from the book to support their answer. We will continue to work on these writing activities next week as we wrap up our novel study.

This morning after we got back from Vocabulary Vine, we discussed chapter 9 in detail. We spent the rest of the time before double specials, reading and working on chapter 10 figurative terms and the comprehension questions.

Today in Language Arts we reviewed our chapter 8 comprehension questions and reviewed the figurative terms within the chapter. We also took some time to read together chapter 9. We are really getting to the climax of the story!
We also took some time to work with our editing partners and find errors within a paragraph. The students missed doing this since we ran out of time last week with starting our novel study.

Yesterday was a busy day for me. I am sorry that I forgot to blog.
Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts, we had a short morning. With double specials today, we really had to do some moving to get through our chapter today. We did have time to discuss the figurative language from Chapter 7 and go over the comprehension questions as well. We took turns reading a loud chapter 8 and comprehension questions were assigned.

***Did your child read an AR book in their lexile range and pass the test with an 80% or better? Remember this is a requirement each grading period. All AR tests need to be taken before next Friday. We also "acted out" roles of the family members within that group and discussed their jobs and responsibilities. We read and discussed lesson 2.5 and had some time to reflect by writing a summary in our interactive workbook.

Finally Friday!
This sure has been a LONG week!

Today in Language Arts we discussed chapter 4 and the literary terms within it. We also read Chapter 5 a loud and time was given in class for the students to read chapter 6 on their own and work on comprehension questions for both chapters.

Some students worked independently with me at this time to brush up on a few skills.
