11/16/10

Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we completed our minute which dealt with object pronouns, worked on our grammar skill for the week which is linking verbs, completed a page in our workbook, and worked a bit in our handwriting book.

A portion of our morning was spent switching for Vocabulary Vine and working on our schoolwide writing prompt. This prompt is a personal reflection about why they are proud to be a Northpoint Star.

Homework:
***Rough drafts of the prompt are due tomorrow. Be ready to write your edited piece on your good paper.
***Weekly/Assessments-due Friday

Math:
Today we completed our minute, graded our homework, and worked on computation. I also taught a mini lesson on multiplying positive and negative numbers by using the "Good Guy" "Bad Guy" idea. This was a big hit and they caught on fast! Tomorrow we will work on dividing both positive and negative numbers.

Our lesson for the day focused on volume. We practiced with more complex cube problems. This was a bit tricky at first, but by the end of class, they were getting it!

Homework:
***Math Box and Study Link 11.5
***We will have a short quiz tomorrow over integers and volume
***Math minute is due on Friday

Social Studies:(Suddarth)
Today in class we discussed the population density of the Northeast and the West. We also did a comparison between Alaska and New York. What a difference! Together we read and discussed sections 5.1-5.3. The students were then placed with a partner to read and complete their reading notes in their Interactive Student Notebook.

Homework:
***The reading notes are homework (Due Thursday)if they were not completed in class.
***The study guide for Chapter 5 was passed out yesterday. My homeroom will have their test next Monday before our break. Get studying early!

Until tomorrow...
