Things are finally back to a normal schedule!
Today in Language Arts, we took our pre-test, reviewed the new vocabulary for the week, and listened to our story on tape. This week's story is called The Raft. Please review the following vocabulary throughout the week: downstream, raft, disgusted, cluttered, nuzzle ,and scattered.
We also worked with our second grade reading and writing buddies on putting words in alphabetical order. This really seemed to help all of the students.
In Grammar, we worked on run-on sentences. We worked on taking a run-on sentence and either turning it into two separate sentences or a complex or compound sentence. This will be a great help when we put this to use in our daily writing.
In writing this morning, we had a writing marathon. The students picked 5 topics that they would be interested in writing about throughout the year. I picked two different topics out of the basket and gave them a choice. The students were given 20 minutes to free write on the topic of their choice. The pens were flying! Several students volunteered to share their writing with the class. I was very impressed to see how excited they were to write.
Homework: Spelling Test is on Friday. Fluency and Flow is also due on Friday.
Accelerated Reader is up and running. We will learn how to work the new program and begin taking AR tests on Wednesday during our computer lab time. I am looking forward to seeing how many tests the students are ready to take.

In Social Studies we discussed Chapter 2-lesson 2. The students have notes to study over these past two lessons. We will have an open book quiz tomorrow over both lessons. Our test is tentatively scheduled for Friday which will be the last day of this rotation for Miss Grannan's homeroom kids. I will start with Mrs. Woods' students on Monday, Sept. 29.
Homework: Practice book pages 21 and 22 due tomorrow. Class time was given to complete these pages.
Until tomorrow...
