9/23/08

Another sunny September day!

Language Arts: Today in Language Arts, we added 3 more word parts to our vocabulary vine. Our new vocabulary is growing a lot as we add more and more words to our vine of word parts. We also worked on run-on sentences and practiced turning them into two separate sentences as well as compound and complex ones. This skill will be tested on Friday during our assessments.
Homework: Read 20-30 minutes each night.(We will take AR tests for the first time tomorrow during computer lab-finally!) Study Spelling for the test on Friday. Fluency and Flow is also due then. Remember to get a parent signature on two spaces on the Fluency and Flow in order to avoid an "Oops" slip. Continue to work on the cereal box project. It is due on October 10. Presentations will begin that day. Some students have already turned theirs in... Please refer to the rubric that was sent home on bright pink paper as you work on it.

Math: In Math today, we worked on a variety of computation skills. We spent some time working on exponential notation. This was a skill in the Math Box yesterday that was "new" for the students. We only focused on base 10. More exponent practice will follow soon.
Homework: Journal p. 238

Social Studies: We discussed Chapter 2-Lesson 3 today. It dealt with Native Americans of the Great Plains. The students were also given an open book quiz over Lesson 1. We will discuss lesson 4 on Thursday. On Friday, we will review all lessons by playing a game and then test over Chapter 2. This will be the last day of the rotation with Miss Grannan's students.
Homework: Practice book- p. 24 (Please note that this is not due until Thursday because the students will not have Social Studies on Wednesday, September 24 because they will have their first D.A.R.E. session.)

Important news:
***Everyone is very excited about our new rock climbing wall. It will be ready for us to play on in just two more days!
