Another long Monday here at Northpoint!
We were able to get a lot accomplished today without specials...
In Language Arts, we started Unit 2. Our story for the week is Mighty Jackie. The story dealt with the sport of baseball and many of our athletes were eager to share everything they know about the sport. I even learned a thing or two! As we were reading, we discussed context clues that helped us figure out the meaning of the new vocabulary words for the week. The words for the week are as follow: legendary, muttered, gaped, snickering, insult, fluke, and flinched. Please review these throughout the week. We also discussed this week's comprehension skill. It deals with the author's purpose for writing the specific piece. We learned that author's write for three reasons: to entertain, to inform, or to persuade.
In Spelling, we are working on the /ch/ and /tch/ sound. This is tricky so I suggest practicing writing the words out this week on a piece of paper as you study.
Homework: Parents, I am asking that you sign the September calendar in the agenda with the number of minutes that your child read each night. These minutes will be counted at the end of each month. Our Spelling test will be on Friday. Fluency and Flow is also due on Friday. Please initial in two places on the Home-School Connection letter.
In Math today, we continued working on finding the area of unique shapes. Today was much better than last week. The students need to remember the formula for finding the area of a triangle. Ask them about it... It is tricky!
Homework: Math Boxes 8.5, 8.6, and 8.7
Social Studies- My homeroom class needs to get their Health test signed and returned to Mrs. Woods for tomorrow. This rotation is now over. Miss Grannan's homeroom students need to get their Chapter 2 Social Studies test and quiz signed and returned to me by tomorrow. Their rotation is now over. I started with Mrs. Woods' class today. We started our first day by going over procedures and then we drove into basic information about Indiana. The students have a handout that they should review.
Until tomorrow....
