4/11/11

It is nice to be back at school to see all the smiling and tanned faces! A little time off does everyone a world of good!

Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we started a novel study. For the next three weeks we will be reading The Sign of the Beaver. Since we will be doing an extensive study of this book, we will not have a weekly homework packet, spelling test, or the usual Friday assessments. We will, however, have nightly homework. I will try to give the students as much time as possible to get it started in class, but it is vital that they keep up with the homework each night. We will have a vocabulary section, figurative terms charts, and a writing to do each night. Please check planners each night to go over their homework.

In addition to daily homework, the students will have a Tic-Tac-Toe that will be due at the completion of our novel study. They should be working on this assignment when they have extra time. (This is in their novel study packet.)

Comprehension questions will be assigned throughout the novel study as well as quizzes. Please discuss each chapter nightly. This will help with understanding the novel.

Homework:
***4 vocabulary words(See vocabulary packet)
***Write a journal entry from Matt's viewpoint. Discuss how you feel about what is happening. this should be 5-7 sentences at least.
***Fill in the colored sheets with the figurative language examples that we discussed in class
***RIT vocabulary is an on-going activity. Please continue to study these each week. We will continue to have short quizzes periodically.
