Language Arts:
Today was a big change for us. Right after double specials, we jumped into our basal for the first time. This week we are reading a story called Miss Alaineus. We will be discussing characters and how they affect the plot.
Our vocabulary words for the week are as follows:categories, gigantic, capable, slumped, soggy, strands, luminous, and credit.
***These words will be tested on Friday so please make sure that you discuss their meanings when you read the story together this week.
Our RIT vocabulary words are as follows: similes, onomatopoeia, genre, alliteration, and setting. These definitions can be found in your childs' binder. We will add new words each week. They should practice them each night so that they know their meanings and are able to give an example of each. We will have a short quiz each Friday.
Today we took our independent spelling test. Your child has a list that they should be studying for the end of the week test on Friday.
In grammar we will be studying complete sentences and using appropriate punctuation.
Homework:
***Our first Weekly Homework Packet was sent home tonight. It is due on Friday. Please take the time to read the story of the week with your child, record and initial their nightly reading minutes each day, and sign the top of the packet. Be sure that the Think and Compare section of the packet is answered in complete sentences with details from the story to support your answer.
