10/10/11

Language Arts:
Today was a busy one! Right after double specials we jumped right into our spelling pretest, new story for the week, RIT vocabulary, and our new grammar skill.

This week we are reading a short nonfiction article. The vocabulary words are as follows: major, quest, settings, reduce and buffet. Please discuss these definitions as you read the story together this week.

Our RIT vocabulary words this week are as follows: anecdote, idiom, mood, connotation, and denotation. The students have these words in their binders. They should be studying them each week for cumulative quizzes.

In grammar, we started working on simple and compound sentences with conjunctions. This was a little confusing at first ,but the more we practiced on white boards, the better it was.

Homework:
***Weekly Homework Packet is due every Friday.

Math:
Today we worked on lessons 3.7 and 3.8. Both of these lesson discussed working with spreadsheets. We discussed the following vocabulary: row, column, and cell name. This lesson ran very smoothly.

During our computation time, we focused on finding out how many possible combinations could be made from certain situations. This gave us practice with drawing tree diagrams.

***Study Links 3.7 and 3.8
***Our test over Unit 3 will be this Friday.

Social Studies:( Monday)
Today we read and discussed the section dealing with the American Indians of the Southeast, read the summary, and worked in small groups filling out informational charts that summarize all seven regions and their specific characteristics. This will be an excellent resource to study off of for our upcoming test on Monday for Mrs. Doms' class. Study guides were passed out today.

Homework:
***Start studying for the test which will be on Monday for Mrs. Doms' homeroom.

***My homeroom will have their Social Studies test this Friday. They have their study guides as well.

Until tomorrow..
