What a great day we had yesterday!
Language Arts: Yesterday(Friday) was a usual day. We took all of our weekly assessments and still had time to review poetry and continue on with our color coding of our writing prompt.
Please note that we will not have a reading story or Fluency and Flow next week. Some written work will be sent home in a packet and due on Friday as usual though.
Please consider coming into school on Tuesday morning at 8:00 to help turn our ELA into an ice cream parlor! We need several parents to make the job go faster!
Homework:
***Remember to keep working on your reading project for this grading period. It is due on March 6th.
***With the I Love to Read challenge right around the corner, it is important that your child continue to read each and every night. We have many incentives planned to encourage them to read, read, read!
Math: We spent the day working on computation, adding to our vocabulary notebook, and working on dividing fractions. Our practice test over unit 8 will be on Monday and the test over the unit will be on Tuesday.
Social Studies: Welcome Mrs. Woods' class! We started new rotations today. Ms. Nufer started lesson 1- The French and Indian War. The students were given a typed handout that summarizes the important facts from the lesson on one side of the paper, and important things to know on the other. This really helped the students comprehend the facts when my homeroom class covered the same material.
Homework:
***We will have a short quiz over lesson 1 on Tuesday. We will review all the material again on Monday and before the short quiz on Tuesday. Please make sure to study the handout of important facts!
Reminders:
*** We are still collecting Pennies for Peace through the end of the month! We need more to fill our container and earn the homeroom reward!

The students will have a short quiz over this lesson on Monday. They will be given a Study Guide that covers this material tomorrow. It will be very useful as a review for the quiz.

During our content time we presented the last of our Science Fair projects. I was very proud of how well the students were able to explain the scientific process! Please remember that the Science Expo is tomorrow from 3:00-5:00. All projects need to be picked between 3:00-5:00.
Reminder:
Ms. Grannan's homeroom class will have a quiz over Chapter 5- Lesson 1 tomorrow. They should use their study guide to review for the quiz.

Wow! It is now February and six more weeks of winter! YUCK!
Today in Language Arts we started our new story. It is called The Blind Hunter. We will continue to practice the comprehension skill of Drawing Conclusions while reading this story. Please ask your child questions about the story and the characters as you read the story together. This will help with their comprehension. In Spelling, we will work on word families and the study of plural patterns. This is a difficult skill this week so be sure to study a little every night. In Grammar, we will study subject and object pronouns. Once again this is a new concept for 4th graders so we will work extra hard this week.
Homework:
***Fluency and Flow -due Friday
***All assessments will be given Friday
***Spelling Words in cursive- due Friday- This is a new assignment that will be due each week. It is an excellent way to practice our spelling words before they are asked to write them correctly on a test.
***Our Reading project is due in a little over a month. Please be sure to work on it soon. This project should take a lot of effort and time.
***Reading minutes for the month of January will be checked sometime this week. Minutes should be recorded and signed each night on the calendar in their planners. I would like parent initals each night. Thanks:o)
***********************************************************************************
In Math we completed our minute, worked on computation, reviewed number-and- word notation, standard notation, and exponential notation. Tomorrow we will work on a practice test together in class. Our Unit 7 test will be on Wednesday, February 4th. Going over the Practice test is an excellent study guide for the test itself.
Homework:
***Study Link 7.9

During our Content rotation, we stayed in our homeroom groups to share Science Fair projects. I was so amazed with all our volunteers and their detailed presentations. I think I learned a thing or two! The remaining students will present tomorrow.
Reminders:
***Our Social Studies class will have a short quiz over Chapter 5 -Lesson 1 on Wednesday. Using their Study Guide handout is an excellent way to study.
***Our Science Expo is on Wednesday of this week from 3:00-5:00. Please make arrangements to come to the Expo between those hours. You will need to pick up projects and take them home at that time.
