10/26/09

I am glad to be back at school after missing Friday!

Language Arts:
Today in Language Arts we had a busy morning. We listened to our read a loud first and then took our spelling pretest. The list for the week is a little tricky. It deals with making words plural including specific rules for making them plural. Please make sure to study a little each night. Our test will be on Friday. Remember: If a word ends in sh, ch, s, or x, you need to add an es to make it plural.

In Reading, we discussed our story vocabulary. Our words for the week are as follows: species, alert, vibrates, surroundings, prey, predators, lunging, and survive. Our story is called Rattlers and it is loaded with interesting facts. Please talk about these as you read the story together this week.

Our RIT vocabulary words are as follow: antecedent, independent clause, dependent clause, fragment, denotation, connotation, and appendix. Every student has a copy of these definitions and examples with them in their RIT folder. They should be reviewed each night for a short quiz on Thursday this week.

Math:
Today we completed our minute, reviewed skills on white boards, discussed our new RIT skill. This week the RIT skills is Solving Inequalities. We will start this concept very slowly. I expect that the students will become more familiar with it by the end of the week.

Our lesson for today dealt with making circle graphs by using a protractor. The students have a template tonight to help them with their homework.

Homework:
***Pages 171, 172 and Math Box and Study Link 5.3

Social Studies:
Today in Social Studies we covered the rest of our American Indian groups in the chapter. We discussed the following groups: American Indians of the Great Plains, Eastern Woodlands, and the Southeast. We used the information that we learned today to complete pages in our Interactive Workbook.

It looks as though our test over chapter 3 will be some time next week. Since we only have Social Studies one more time this week, I do not want to rush through the material. I will let the students know what day the test will be as soon as we get closer. It is always a good idea to review what we cover in class each night. This will make studying for the test a whole lot easier.

Homework:
***No written homework

Reminders:
This is Red Ribbon Week. Remember to wear you athletic gear tomorrow.

Until tomorrow...
