Welcome to our first full week!

We had a great start today. It was our first day of curriculum;o)

In Spelling, we took our Spelling pretest. Your child has an independent Spelling list that they should practice each night this week. The posttest will be on Friday. The skill this week is short vowel sounds.

In Reading, they were also given their homework for the week. It is called Fluency and Flow. It is due on Friday as well. This homework will need your help as well as your signature. I did explain this to the students, but if you have any questions, please write me a note in their planners prior to Friday so that I can explain the directions to you. Please encourage your child to write their answers to the comprehension questions in complete sentences and in their personal best handwriting.

In Grammar, we discussed sentences, fragments and types of sentences. We completed a sheet in class. This will be tested on Friday as well.

In Writing, we completed a baseline writing prompt. This will be used in our 15 Day Crunch in preparing for the writing portion of the ISTEP. The prompt dealt with writing a letter to their "Special Person". I have learned a lot of interesting things about a lot of people!

Math started off with our first Daily. The students were given one minute to complete ten different kinds of problems. We will start each class with this to work on both speed and accuracy. The rest of the class was spent reviewing a variety of skills. I will spend the next few weeks reviewing skills and I will use their beginning of the year test to ensure that we cover all the areas in need. So far, I am very impressed! This is a very motivated group! Homework tonight is a review sheet. It is due tomorrow.

In Social Studies, we started off with basic facts about Indiana. The students were given a white handout sheet that we discussed. I told them to study it. A quick quiz will be given over it on Wednesday.

Reminders: Our Parent Information Night is on Wednesday from 5:00-6:00. I look forward to sharing a lot of important information with all of you at that time.

Until tomorrow...
