8/19/08

It was a hot one here today!

We are having some issues with our air conditioning and it was quite warm in school today. Please send a water bottle with your child and dress appropriately:o)

Reading:
We went over Fluency and Flow directions today so that everyone knows what is expected of them on Friday. We spent some time going over this weeks RIT vocabulary as well as a new DEAR activity that we will do for 1/2 hour Tuesday through Friday of each week. During this time, some students will be reading independently while others are working in a small group getting help in specific reading skills. It is important that your child have an independent reading book at school each day. We want them to be able to utilize every minute of their time!

Grammar:
We reviewed the 4 types of sentences. Please be sure to ask them what the different kinds are and what kind of punctuation they use.

Writing:
Today we worked on prompt attack in writing. We talked about how to set up a web in order to write and answer questions to a given prompt. This is slow process but great preparation for ISTEP!

Homework:Remember that every 4th grader needs to read 20-30 minutes each night. Their minutes should be logged in their planners and signed by a parent. Fluency and Flow is due on Friday. Our Spelling test is Friday too!

Math:
We continued to review skills today. I was excited to see their faces as we worked on their white boards and their memories were jogged and they remembered something that they forgot over the summer. We will continue to practice skills so that I can get a better idea of what level they are at.

Homework:The students have a review sheet that is due tomorrow.

Social Studies:
We reviewed important information about Indiana and the U.S. today. The students have a handout from yesterday covering this. We will have a short quiz over this material tomorrow. We also continued pp. H11-14 in our books and practice book. The students were given time to complete these pages in class. If not, it is homework.

Reminder: Our Parent Information Night is tomorrow at 5:00. I look forward to sharing information with you.

Until tomorrow...
