Welcome Back and Happy New Year!
It sure was nice to see everyone this morning! Everyone was so excited to share their adventures, gifts, and trip itinerary! We are off to a great start...
Miss Nufer, our student teacher, joined our class today. She will be with us until March 13th. Over the next few weeks, she will be observing my teaching style and classroom management and will gradually begin assisting and teaching the students. I look forward to working closely with her over the next 10 weeks. I am sure that we will be a great teaching team!
Today in Language Arts we took our pre-test and discussed this weeks spelling rules. We also discussed the new vocabulary for the week, read our story together, and discussed the sequencing of events and summarizing. The grammar skill for the week deals with linking verbs and subject-verb agreement. This skill will be tested on Friday. During our writing block of time, we cut apart sentence strips to create 5different paragraphs. This helped the students form paragraphs, sequence their sentences, and recognize sentences that do not belong within the paragraph.
Homework:
***Fluency and Flow/Spelling test-Friday
***My homeroom needs to have their Science proposals turned in no later than Wed., Jan.7
***Read 2025 minutes-(Our next project will be passed out some time this week.)
During Math, we completed our minute, worked on computation on white boards as a review and their 5th grade Study Links were passed out. (They were so excited!) We worked our way through Unit 1 and added a few vocabulary words to our notebook. We will spend this week going over skills from journal 1 that we are skipping. This will ensure that we do not have any "holes" in our curriculum before we start Journal 2 sometime next week.
Homework:
None
In Social Studies we started chapter 3 -lesson 1. The students were given a handout that has notes on one side and a study guide of questions on the other. They will have a short quiz over this on Wednesday after we review it again tomorrow. They were very interested in the French and Indian War. Ask them what they remember about our discussion tonight!
Until tomorrow...
