I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!
Are you ready to have some fun? Be sure to plan on coming to our Fall Festival this Friday. Fliers were sent home today to students who are youngest or only children. These fliers talk about ways to pre-buy tickets. Get ready to have some fun!
Donations are still being accepted for our baskets for the silent auction at our Golf Outing for the Make-A-Wish program. This is going to be a great time. We still have openings for golfers too. Please let us know if you are interested.
Language Arts:
Right after double specials, we jumped right into a new week. We took our Vocabulary Vine quiz and spelling pre test. We then discussed our five new RIT words for the week. They are:
Haiku- A form of Japanese poetry that has three lines. The first line has 5 syllables, the second has 7 syllables, and the third has 5 syllables. The subject of the haiku is usually about nature.
Analogy- A comparison of ideas or objects that are completely different but alike in one important way.
Colloquialism- A common word or phrase suitable for ordinary, everyday conversation but not for formal speech or writing.
Example: run this by her... no way
Exaggeration- An overstatement or stretching of the truth to emphasize a point.
Oxymoron- A technique in which two words with opposite meanings are put together for a special effect.
Example: war for peace, black light, sweet tart
During reading, we also discussed our six new vocabulary words. They are: nuzzle, raft, scattered, disgusted, cluttered, and downstream. We listened to our story in class, but remember to read it together and go over the vocabulary too.
