Language Arts:
Today was a start to another great week. After double specials, we took our spelling pretest, reviewed our story vocabulary and this weeks RIT words. They are:
Story Vocabulary- legendary, snickering, flinched, insult, fluke, gaped and muttered
RIT Vocabulary-
Personification- A figure of speech in which a non human thing is given human characteristics.
Example: The sun winked at me through the window.
Pathetic Fallacy- This is a type of personification in which you give things found in nature human like qualities.
Example: The leaves danced on the trees.
Pun- A phrase that uses words that sound the same in a way that gives them a funny effect.
Example: Jamaica sandwich for lunch today?
Slang- Informal words or phrases used by a particular group of people among themselves.
Example: chill out, freakin' out
We also found time to listen to our story on tape and discuss it. The reading comprehension skill this week is author's purpose, so we spent quite a bit of time discussing this. During our grammar time, we worked on common and proper nouns.

Social Studies:(Suddarth)
Our class started Chapter 3 today. This chapter talks about five different groups of people that contributed to making the United States what it is today. We spent time working in our ISNB and then worked with a partner reading about our assigned group. Tomorrow we will begin working on a collage that will later be used to make a class collage illustrating gifts that all five groups have contributed to our great nation!
Until tomorrow...
