9/21/09

We had a great start to our week!

Language Arts:
Today is our long day of the week without any specials so we were able to get through a lot of material. In spelling we took our pretest, completed a word sort, and discussed the definitions of our spelling words.

In reading we reviewed our story vocabulary for the week, listened to our story Pipiolo and the Roof Dogs, and discussed the comprehension skill of the week which is cause and effect. We also discussed this weeks RIT vocabulary. This week the words are as follows: palindrome, active voice, passive voice, acronym, and initialism. Please make sure to review these a little each night.

In grammar we completed a transparency together in identifying run-on sentences. We also practiced individually by completing a grammar sheet.

We also took some time to listen to our read a loud, meet with our third grade reading buddies for the first time, and meet with Mrs. Slater to discuss conflict resolution.

Homework:

The words of the week are frequency table, histograms, multiple, compatible numbers, and least common numbers. We will continue to discuss them throughout the week, but every student should review their notes and definitions nightly as well for the quiz on Friday.
Unit 3 deals with variables, graphs, and formulas. We discussed general and special case patterns today with only one variable. We will continue tomorrow with two variables.
