10/16/08

A new grading period has started...

It is so hard to believe that the first grading period is over. It seems like only yesterday when your kids walked into my classroom for the first time. They all seem very comfortable and adjusted to their new surroundings now.

In Language Arts, we had a special presentation by Mr. Glassman. He talked about the "Soils of Indiana". The students enjoyed his presentation as always. After his presentation, were also able to get in one chapter of our read aloud. We have had some good conversations about the characters and their actions.

Our new reading project requirements were passed out today. Be sure to look for it in their blue folders. This project should be fun for the kids. Please make sure that they get a head start on reading a book in their lexile range. They should also practice their presentation several times before presentations start. This project is due on December 12. Presentations will start on that day.

Homework:
*** Grammar packet is due.
***A parent signature is needed on their Student Evaluation Chart.
***Read for 20-30 minutes each night. It is a 4th grade daily requirement. Parents should record their reading minutes on the calendar in the planner and initial it each night.

In Math today, we reviewed percents and discounts.
Homework: Math Box 9.8

In Social Studies, we started a new rotation. I have my own homeroom students back. We discussed Chapter 2- lesson 1- The Arrival of the Europeans. They were given a handout that would be good to use as a study guide.

Homework: Study the lesson 1 handout. We will have a quiz over lesson 1 on Monday, October 20.

Reminders:
*** Tomorrow is Stuffed Animal Day-Please bring in $1.00 or more to help us adopt a snow leopard from the zoo.
***Fall Festival-Come join the fun from 6:30-8:30.

Until tomorrow...
