10/2/08

What a day!

I am sorry that I am so late blogging today. I just got home from a yummy birthday dinner!

Language Arts: Language Arts went fairly quickly today since we had double specials. We were able to add five new word parts in Vocabulary Vine and spend some time reviewing common and proper nouns. I think they finally have it! We also spent about 20 minutes listening to our read aloud. We have only a few more pages left in our first read aloud.

Homework: We will be in Language Arts groups all day tomorrow because of the No Child Left Inside activities. It might be a good idea to bring a blanket to sit on, a sack lunch, and a sweatshirt or light jacket. We will be outside most of the day. We are even planning on eating lunch outside too. Fluency and Flow is due tomorrow. We will also have our Spelling test and weekly assessment sometime in between the outside activities. Please remember that our first Reading project is due in one week. (October 10) They may be turned in earlier as they are completed. Reading minutes should be logged each night and signed by a parent. These minutes will be used as a grade at the end of each month.

Math: Today in Math, we reviewed many skills on the board during computation time. We also worked with a partner on a practice test. This test is like the actual test that we will have on Monday. It will cover area and perimeter. Please review it over the weekend as a study guide.

Homework: Review the practice test for the test on Monday.

Social Studies: We started Chapter 1-Lesson 1. We discussed how the first Americans came to North America. The students were very attentive and interested in the lesson. The vocabulary we discussed today was as follows: Ice Age, Beringia, hunters and gatherers, mammoth, artifacts, archaeologists, artifacts, and Angel Mounds. Please ask your child what they can tell you about these terms.

Homework: None

Until tomorrow...
